Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am 36 years old. My parents divorced in California when I was twelve, and my father ran off to Georgia. My mom never claimed child support in the divorce, but I have heard that I can still claim it, even as an adult. Is this true? He never gave us a dime, and I really would like him to pay up for once.

Thank you, J

You need to check the divorce decree to see what the child support decree says. Child support can still be collected if there was a order for child support and it is unpaid. The mother however is the one who collects now the adult child.

The family law facilitator in your local county can help self represented individuals.

Please contact an attorney in your area prior to taking any legal action.

Good luck,
