It's really not up to your 8 yr. old son to make that decision. He is too young. In order to get a modification, there will need to be a very good reason. Has he indicated why he doesn't want to go to his dad's every other weekend?

As a custodial parent, part of your job is to foster a relationship between your children and your ex, no matter how difficult you might find it. It is very important that children maintain good relationships with both parents, and that the parents work together to achieve that goal.

Explain to your child that part of having parents living apart is spending time with both parents, and that both of you love him equally and want to spend time with him. Therefore, it is really not fair to your ex, or your child, if you dont make your child go along with the visitation order.

Further the decision is an adults, not a child's to make. The parent runs the house, not a child.
