Legal Question in Family Law in California
adoption
I want to adopt my fiance's son, but we dont know who the dad is. There are two possibilities. Neither of them have made any attempt to be in his life since he was born 3 months ago. How can I adopt without having to actually contact them. Is there a way that I can post an add in the legal section of our local paper and if so what does it need to say?

Your questions leave me with more questions than answers. The facts you have given are not complete enough. There is a lot of information which is still unknown and must be determine in order to decide the best way to proceed. Some of the basic questions are: Was your fiance married when the child was born or prior to the birth of the child? and if she was married prior to the birth how long before the birth of the child? Is a father listed on the birth certificate? Are you sure it could only be one of the two people you think it is? Are you positive the two people you have narrowed it down to know about the child? There are two many questions left unanswered to give you any sort of real answer to your question. However, I will tell you that if the father is unknown to the mother and/or there is no way to contact the father it is possible to adopt without the father's permission. However, it is a long process and not one I can give any competent answer to here under these circumstances. Next, your thoughts about notice in a paper could be used but you are still a long way from that. The language is legal language which you need to look at up at a local library. Generally the newspapers know what should be stated and will take care of it. However, I suggest you contact an attorney or at the very least contact the local family facilitator's office at the County Court house. At the very least contact a volunteer legal center and speak with them regarding the situation. There are two many unanswered questions to steer you in the right direction.
