Legal Question in Family Law in California

Adoption of friends

My cousin and I are best friends. We want to legally adopt eachother as sisters.I am 18, she is 17...is this legally possible? If so, how would we go about this in the state of California? We'd really appreciate you input on this matter, thank you!

Re: Adoption of friends

No, not possible. Someone would have to adopt both of you, then you would be sisters, legally. But, it may not be possible to get a court to agree to an adoption of an 18 year old, who is legally already considered an adult. You could, however apply for a legal name change, so you both have the same last name. And you could change your first names to something like Mindi and Mandi or Jean and Joan or Julie and Judy, etc. Then you could wear similar clothes and haircuts. Wouldn't that be fun!?
