Legal Question in Family Law in California

adoption

An unmarried couple have conceived a child. The father is willing to get married as a result of the pregnancy but the mother is not. The mother wants to give up the baby for adoption. Both father and mother are unable to provide for the custody and care of the baby as single parents. The father wants to block the mother's decision to give the baby up for adoption. He wants to force the mother to retain custody of the baby so that he can have access to the baby throughout his/her lifetime. Can the father force the mother not to give up the baby for adoption?

Re: adoption

The father cannot force mother not to give up the child for adoption. However, without his consent the child cannot be placed for adoption. A review of the costs of caring for a child may help him change his mind. Obtain information regarding the cost of day care and the cost of basic baby supplies and review it with him. If that does not convince him then try a counselor.
