Legal Question in Family Law in California

Thanks in advance. I live in northern California and have a joint custody 50/50 situation. I would like to move to San Diego, but I am not willing to do it without assurance that I will be able to work out a reasonable 'vacation schedule'.

I cannot request a change of the order if I haven't yet moved, can I? But if I do move and am unable to work out a new order with the judge...

Any help would be very much appreciated. sz

Actually in a move-away situation, you do make the motion to modify custody before you move.
