Is it advisable to refinance my home after I file for divorce or should I wait till after the divorce is finalized?

The question needs more information. What is the purpose of the refinance? To get a better rate, buy out your spouse or some other reason. If the plan is a buy out, you should have all the terms of your marital agreement written out and signed by a judge before you divide the home.

I agree with Ms. Kock. The answer to that question is going to depend on some other facts. Some parties refinance during the divorce, as part of settlement as Ms. Kock advises. Some have to refinance to obtain funds to pay for lawyer's fees.
