Legal Question in Family Law in California

afdc child support

My ex dau. in law had physical custody of my grandson and she received AFDC in San Diego. My grandson was determined SSI eligible. So, she would have been the only one receiving AFDC. San Diego has wage assignment on my son (the father) for the AFDC. They were divorced when my grandson was one year old. With interest, San Diego claims my son owes $85,000.00. He no longer resides in California. He resides in Nevada. What can he do? Can he file bankruptsy on any of this? Can he get the wage assignment reduced?

Thank you

Re: afdc child support

He can enter an agreement to make payments. I am pretty sure he can't clear this debt through bankruptcy, however he might want to confirm that with a bankruptcy attorney.
