Legal Question in Family Law in California

Age of chld to make decisions

My daughter will be 17 on June 21st. She has been invited to go on a trip to Mexico on June 29th with another family. Her father has said no. I have legal custody, he has visitation, as little as it is at her age. Can I let her go, or can she make that decision on her own?

Unless an agreement or court order specifically states that both parties must agree before your daughter can leave the state or country, you should have the authority to let her go. I can't make a definite statement to that effect without seeing the judgment or settlement agreement.

To be on the safe side, you could do an ex parte motion to get court permission to allow her to go.
