Legal Question in Family Law in California

the age of 18 or 19, if a full time student

My divorce papers say I will pay child support for my daughter until she is 18 or 19 if a full time student, would you explain that statement to me? I live in Tennessee and we were divorced in Ca.

NOW, IN RESPONSE TO YOUR INQUIRY --

You must continue to pay child support if:

1. Your daughter is not yet eighteen.

2. Your daughter is between eighteen and nineteen but is still attending high school and living with a parent.

If neither of the above is true then then your child supoort obligation is over pursuant to your judgment.

Thanks for sharing your interesting inquiry with us on LawGuru, and good luck with your case.

IF YOUR DAUGHTER IS STILL A FULL TIME STUDENT IN HIGH SCHOOL AT THE TIME SHE TURNS 18 CHILD SUPPORT WILL CONTINUE UNTIL SHE IS NO LONGER A FULL TIME STUDENT OR SHE TURNS 19, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. MOST KIDS TURN 18 DURING THEIR SENIOR YEAR AND CHILD SUPPORT CONTINUES UNTIL THEY GRADUATE. GOOD LUCK, PAT MCCRARY

Reply: the age of 18 or 19, if a full time student

In California, child support terminates when a child turns 18, unless that child on the 18th birthday is still a full time high school student residing with a parent. If the child is still a full time high school student residing with a parent on the 18th birthday, then child support extends to age 19 or graduation from high school, whichever first occurs.

Good luck to you!
