Legal Question in Family Law in California

When what age can my kids say we don't want to go??

My 3 kids are very much straight A students. They are very much into sports. Both in school and during the summer. We want to know when is it okay for them to say ''I don't want to go anymore....I have a life''.

Re: When what age can my kids say we don't want to go??

There is not a set age established by law. Each Court and each Judge has a certain degree of discretion in basing orders on the express wants of the child(ren). Factors that are considered are: the age of the child(ren), the maturity of the child(ren), the underlying custody/visitation issues, etc...

What you can do: (1) Request mediation and set up an appointment for you, the other parent and your child(ren) to speak to the family court mediator and try to work out something between yourselves with the help of a trained mediator; or

(2) If this is part of an ongoing custody/visitation dispute, you can also request that the court appoint an attorney to represent the child(ren). If your request is granted, it will give a voice for your child(ren) during any court proceedings.
