Legal Question in Family Law in California

Alcoholic Parent

I am a mother, my son is 8 yrs old. 2 1/2 years ago my husband who is alcoholic kicked both me and my son out of our home. We have been separated ever since. My son has had weekend visits with his father twice a month. My husband hasn't hurt my son but lately, my husband's drinking is more frequent. I am worried about my son's safety when he is with his father the whole weekend. How do I protect my son? My husband swears he doesn't drink when my son is with him. My husband is threatening, abusive and manipulative towards me. I worry for my son's safety. I used to drug/alcohol test him and they were always negative. His parents are asking me to not let my son go to his house for the weekends until he gets professional help. How do I enforce this legally? How do I protect myself from his verbal abuse and threats afterwards? He also doesn't help to support my son and I have been very gracious in that area. I need advice!

Re: Alcoholic Parent

You should consult with an attorney regarding the visitation. If his parents will testify that he should not have visits you should be in a much stronger position.
