Well, I'm not sure if I understand your question.
In CA, a spouse can ask for alimony to be paid by the other spouse. This still works in CA.
If you are talking about your own particular case, you should consult with an attorney. Alimony is not the "slam dunk" that people think it is. (Except for initially, and even then it's based on "need" and "ability to pay.)
