Legal Question in Family Law in California

What is an Appeal Bond, and why was it issued?

What is an Appeal Bond and why would it be issued for a misdemeanor in a divorce settlement case where the man it was issued to makes $36,000.00 a year and the court put an Appeal Bond for $200,000.00 on him when he couldn't pay child support arrears of $1700.00 a month, this man does not have children with his ex and they where married less then eight years? The court is under investigation for corruption, but what can we do in the meantime? Our attorny says he doesn't know what an Appeal Bond is?

Re: What is an Appeal Bond, and why was it issued?

An appeal bond is obtained to insure that if the party appealing is not successful the other party will be paid its costs and attorney fees, if ordered to pay them.

You could file a writ with the court of appeals requesting that the court be ordered to reduce the amount of the bond.
