Legal Question in Family Law in California

Asset/Property Division and Alimony Up to Us or the Court?

In a divorce settlement, if both parties have no disputes over the divison of assets and the amount of alimony, will the court intervene and change the conditions and the amount? Let's say that one party is not working, but has agreed not to receive any alimony and assets. Would the court be ok with that?

In my experience, the court will very likely adopt the parties' settlement agreement as the order of the court, unless child support is involved.

Courts want people to reach an amicable agreement on all matters. They will make certain the terms/conditions are known, acknowledged and it is understood that the court will normally not continue their involvement once agreed. They will always retain jurisdiction re child support.
