Legal Question in Family Law in California

Attorney Client Relationship and Communication Expectations

I retained an attorney to to collect arrears for child support from a dissolution of marriage in 1975. The respondent's attorney wanted to settle out of court and my attorney was working on an agreeable amount to present to the respondent...today I get a call from my attorney, with all parties at the courthouse wanting to know why I did not show up...I was mortified. I am inclined to find another attorney...can you help me reasonably determime what to expect from attorney/client relationship?

Re: Attorney Client Relationship and Communication Expectations

If you were present when the court date was set the attorney may not have given you a reminder. If the court date was set when you were not present then the attorney should have given you notice of the court date. Sit down with the attorney and discuss this matter. Explain why you are upset and ask the attorney what can be done to resolve your concerns. If you are unable to get those concerns resolved then consider another attorney.
