Legal Question in Family Law in California

Attorneys withdrawl

My attorney has sent me notification that if I don't satisfy the 4000.00+ bill that I owe within 10 days she will withdraw as my attorney. As my only income is SSI it is not possible. She has stated on two seperate occations that she is certain Mr. will have to pay my fees. I don't understand why then she would do this, however my question is, what now? We were at the settlement conference stage of the proceedings, which I'm certain would not have been productive. If I go pro per at this stage what do I need to do? There is a retirement account, an annuity and other substantial community assets at stake. IE: Gun Collection, Horses and Home furnishings.

I paid a 4000.00 retainer initially plus owe her the other 4000.00 it is not possible for me to retain another attorney at this point. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
