i had a baby 9 years ago which the state took away from me and was put up for adoption. now all of a sudden my paychecks are being garnish for this same child, i don't understan how they can take half my paycheck for a child that i havent seen for the past 9 years ?

Something is not correct in what you are saying, or you are leaving things out. We can't answer your question without true, complete and accurate information to go on. For starters, if your child was actually adopted, there would be no way you would be garnished for child support. In addition, there is no way you would be garnished for child support without having received anything about it before the garnishing started. If they know where you work, they know where to send you the papers about the garnishment before it starts. Furthermore your employer was required to give you copies. So please provide true and full information if you want any answers.
It is possible that the adoption never went through. You may not be liable for child support or even if you are, you may be able to obtain a modification and significantly reduce the amount you owe. I can run a child support calculator program for you to see if your support can be reduced.
