Legal Question in Family Law in California

Biological Father responsibilites

I just found out I am the biological father of a 20 year old child. I live in WA and the child lives in CA with his mother. Am I liable for retroactive child support? I suspect the mother may have financial motives here.

Unless you are served with a court order I would not worry about child support. Your grown child may just be curious about you if you were never there physically or financially. If you have other children they are half siblings to this child. I would hope that the mother could assure you that her belief that you are the father is well founded.

Child support cannot be ordered retroactively. I would assume that the motives of the mother is to allow her child to meet her father. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
