Legal Question in Family Law in California

hello... this is not for me... it's for my boyfriend... he had a one night fling and the woman got pregnant... she decided to have the baby.... well on the birth certificate he was not named the father... but he sees the baby... what if the mother is willing to give him custody, how can he go about doing this legally since he is not on the birth certificate? and can this be done?

The Birth Certificate is irrelevant. He would have to file a Paternity Action to get enforceable court orders, but this will make the woman upset and she will most likely get an attorney to fight you. He could be subject to all kinds of orders, including child support, and attorney fee awards. I think taking custody of an infant away from a mother is a bad idea. I would work this out with her to visit the baby and provide for him without involving the court.
