Broken marriage engagement

In California, when one breaks the marriage engagement, is it lawful for the proposed wife to keep the engagement ring, especially when the proposed husband is still making payments on it?

Generally, if the person giving the engagement ring breaks the engagement the ring that was given is kept by the person receiving the ring. If the the person receiving the ring breaks the engagement, the ring is returned. The person breaking the engagement is the loser. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
