Legal Question in Family Law in California

I think that my brother in law is trying to steal $30,000 from my Mother in law. He says that he owed child support to the State of Georgia but settled it and paid it off. Now however, he says the State of California is trying to collect the same child support that Georgia settled with him.

The question, is there a public record list of people that California compiles for delinquent fathers?

Thank you,

Steve

Hi, This sounds very suspicious and untrue. Get the records from Georgia from the court where the case was heard and check with your local court and district attorney to see if they have records about your brother. You can call the district attorney's office and ask for the child support division. He does not have to pay twice, just show proof it was paid and the California courts would accept that. He needs some research and paperwork, not $30,000.00. Tell your mother to be careful, and tell your brother that defrauding the elderly is a serious crime. Good luck!
