how do you calculate child support when one parents salary is 949,000 and they are a partner of a law firm.

The same as any other case, you just put the number in the computer. The issue is that this "high income earner" can ask for a downward adjustment to the guideline formula by trying to establish that the child support amount based upon the guideline formula provides an amount well above the needs of the child(ren) and that a lesser amount than guideline is appropriate. Last year, I saw a judge deny such a downward modification for someone who had $1,000,000 in W-2 income (case handled in my firm but not by me). The downward adjustment to guideline support is no gimmie.
