In California is money received from a family estate considered community property? Our son may be gewtting into a divorce situation and he will receive money from his grandmothers estate.

Assets that are inherited are separate assets and not divided as community property. Good Luck, Pat McCrary

He should keep these funds in a separate account to simplify the accounting at the time of the divorce. That way he can clearly show that these are the separate property funds.
