In California, how many days does the respondant have to respond after being served divorce petition papers?

30 days from the time service is complete. If the person is served personally, the service is deemed complete on the day that the summons and petition were served on them. If the person is served via substituted service, then service is deemed complete on the 10nth day after the summons and petition were mailed.
