Legal Question in Family Law in California
California- if one party seeks legal counsel, does the new Attorney have an obligation to notify the other party that they will be handling the case? Or is a phone call from the new attorney stating that they can't make the scheduled settlement conference due to unavailability and would like to discuss a continuance, sufficient?

If the case is in litigation, a substitution of attorney is usually signed by the new attorney, served on the parties, and filed with the court.
