Legal Question in Family Law in California

In California, my wife and I got divorced 16 years ago, after 14 years marriage, but kept living together because of our kid. We did not divide anything between us then. I moved out about 2 years ago and left everything to her. She had then and still has a good career and income but I don't. I have no income. Am I entitled to getting anything from her?

It depends on what your judgment of dissolution states. Did you divide your property at that time? What was ordered regarding spousal support? If the judgment states the Court retains jurisdiction to divide property and order spousal support, you can go back to Court to finalize these issues. If the judgment contained a division of assets and terminated the Court's jurisdiction to award spousal support, there is nothing you can do now. You should meet with an attorney and have them review your judgment. Good Luck.

You need to take the judgment to an attorney and have them review the judgment to determine if you have any rights. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
