Legal Question in Family Law in California
the case involves a father who has brandished a firearm in front of his minor daughter...what is a provisional custody mandate?

If the father brandished the weapon and threatened the child with it, you should contact the police immediately so they can file for protections for you and the child. You should further contact CPS so they can determine if this is an emergency situation. You may want to consider filing a restraining order to get some type of emergency protection for your child.
For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.
As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
