Legal Question in Family Law in California

case number

I filed for and got custody of my daughter a year ago but received no papers after filing and now I need copies of those papers but I don't have the case number. If I received none of the papers how do I get the case number to get those papers? No one will even talk to me without a case number. Thank you!

Re: case number

There are services, called "attorney services" or "process servers" that are very familiar with local courthouses, they will look up this information for a reasonable fee. They will also obtain your certified copies for you. Unlike the court clerks, they will respond to emails and phone calls and they take credit cards. You can look them up at superpages.com . Of course, you could also ask a friend to look up the case number by going to the clerk's office and looking up the "family law index" (a list of case numbers indexed by the names of the parties). Some courts even have their index information online, try accessing the courthouse's website via www.courtinfo.ca.gov .
