I have been active always in my kids lives and they have many roots where we live. Ages 14,12 and 9

Their legal subject area you referenced in California family law are known as move away cases. You're correct in assuming that the children cannot summarily be uprooted by a parent without determining what is that in the children's best interests. It would be appropriate for you to take the initiative to file a motion requesting that the minor children remain in their home state pending a determination of the custodial outcome. Please meet with an experienced family law attorney to explore your legal options since this is a complicated area of the law.
