Legal Question in Family Law in California

I would like to change my daughters last name to my last name. she is almost two years old and her father and I havent been together since i was three months pregnant. My question is do i need his permission to change her last name to my last name or can i just let him know im doing it and get it done..

my second question is my daughter was born in missouri but we live in california. Do i have to get her name changed in missouri or can i get it done in california

You will have to notify him and he will have the option to object. If you have lived in California with her for six months or more, you can do it in CA.
