Name change before divorce

I want to change my last name back to my maiden name before my divorce is final. How do I do this?

The easiest way to accomplish this is through the dissolution action where the Judgment, if properly filled out, restores you to your maiden name. The other way to accomplish this is to file a separate action in court seeking a judicial name change.

Good luck to you!

NOW, IN RESPONSE TO YOUR INQUIRY --

The facts that you have provided are not clear

enough and/or complete enough to provide a

definitive answer to you inquiry.

I am not sure about this but you may be able to set an Order to Show Cause hearing on the issue of your name prior to your judgment becoming final, especially if it is in conjunction with termination of your marital status. Otherwise see CA Judicial Council form NC-100 (available on the web) and follow the instructions thereon.

Thanks for sharing your interesting inquiry with us on LawGuru, and good luck with your case.
