Legal Question in Family Law in California

name change after divorce

I have been divorced almost 20 years and legally my county paperwork will not change to my maiden name, not even with divorce papers. How do I go about changing it.

Go to Accesslaw on the internet. Select judicial council forms; scroll down to the bottom of that section to forms by category. Select the family law section. Then scroll down to form FL 395*. This form is an exparte application to restore former name. The court may charge filing fee for this form. If the filing fee is more than you can afford, you can afford get the forms for the a fee waiver. Many counties have a family law clinic that gives free legal advice. This form should give you the result that you want.

Good luck to you!
