Legal Question in Family Law in California

Name Change

I was divorced several years ago and kept my married name to have the same name as my children. As my children are grown now, I would like to return to my maiden name. Can I do this by filing paperwork with the SS Administration and IRS, or do I have to go through a formal name change process with the courts?
