Legal Question in Family Law in California
How do I change my name legally?
I have a full Asian name and it is listed on all of my records. I now want to add an additional American name for easier usage, how do I go about to add an American name? Where do I start, and what do I need to do? What will it involve and cost? Also, can I legally use an American nickname that I will change to without it being listed on any other records?
Thanx.

Re: How do I change my name legally?
You can legally change your name through the courts. Then you can use aka on all your legal documents. You can go by any nickname you want. This is America. You are free to use any name you desire even if it is not your legal name--except in cases where it is required to use your legal name (ie, social security cards, court proceedings, Visas, drivers license, etc)
