Legal Question in Family Law in California

Change Name for Minor

I am a minor trying to change my name. I have used the name I am trying to change into for the past 10+ years at school including on my SATs. The only difference between my legal name and my prefered name is a space. I changed my last name by using common usage a couple years ago when I became a citizen and I was wondering, since my passport is due for a renewal if I could change it then. If not, how should I go about changing it? Also my parents are divorced and I have no contact AT ALL with my biological father so it is virtually impossible to get him to sign anything.
