Have you thought about adoption? Step-parent adoptions can be relatively simple and not to expensive. However you should be fully aware of all the consequences before you decide to adopt such as, after the adoption your daugther would now be legally your child, as if you were her biological father. This means that your daughter could now inherit from you like any other children you may have, and if you were ever to get divorced, the mother could collect child support from you.

If you like you might be interested in learning more about step-parent adoption please feel free to give me a call. I would be happy to discuss it with you.

Many fathers who find themselves in the same situation as yourself find adoption to be exactly what they were looking for and accomplish the name change at the same time.
