how to get a change of venue

i here in california right now and iam change to seach ful legal custody of me son who is 3 he has not seen his dad in a year his dad is currently in the sate of hawaii i got legal asst. over here in california but they told me that i needed to get a change of venue from hawaii before i can proceed with the process and i do not know how to go about doing that
