Legal Question in Family Law in California

change of venue from state to state

My divorce was filed and finalized in Colorado in 1994. My ex wife has no visitation rights except by phone and what has been allowed under private agreement. The children and I have lived in California for 3 years. I believe that there may be some upcoming problems. Is there a way to change the venue from state to state?

Yes. Register a certified copy of the CO judgment in your county. When and if she files some kind of motion in CO, you would file a motion in CA seeking to have CA assert "home state" jurisdiction over custodial issues per UCCJEA.
