Legal Question in Family Law in California

Changing Court Ordered Support

Couple married 18+ years, 2 children. Husband left, has no relationship with children (ages 11 and 17). Court ordered spousal support of $506/month and $1448/month child support. Marriage dissolved via bifurcation 2 months ago. Financial situation not resolved yet. House sold; escrow funds divided upon mutual agreement, but ex-husband says ex-wife still owes him $6000. Current month's support check is short $506 and included a letter stating that since the $6000 is ''owed'', the spousal support will be deducted from check until the $6000 is paid in full. Letter is not legal, only note from ex-husband. Options?

Re: Changing Court Ordered Support

Support payments have nothing to do with monies owed. Do you owe the additional money. Should retain counsel to deal with this properly. 800-685-6950
