changing a restraining order to get visistation rights

I have a retraining order on me. My ex is willing to modify it for me to be able to visit our child. I only scraemed at her on the phone and she said I pushed her once. This lastthing is not true. The phone calls are true.I have not seen my son in 8 months. Can this can be done only through mail or do we have to go to mediation.
