changing my sons name

My son has his mother's last name. I want to change it to my last name. How do I start this process?

How old is your son? Were you married? More information is needed. A Petition for Name Change can be obtained at your local county courthouse. Review the petition to see what is required.

If you were not married to the mother, then you

should secure your legal standing as father through a

paternity action. You can request a change of name in that

action.
