Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child abandonment

My ex took our boys (then 7 & 5) to Disneyland July of 2005, brought them home at 9:00 pm dropped them off two doors up the street, in the middle of the street, drove off and until now (2 years later) never once tried to see or speak to them again. Now I get a letter saying he wants to have his visitation back. What can I do? He rarely picked them up on time or at all before. The boys had to go to counseling for a year because of this.

Re: Child abandonment

You should file a motion to modify visitation. Leaving a 7 and 5 year old in the middle of the street put them at risk. This was very poor judgment on his part, and the children should be protected from this conduct. Explain to the court that you did not act sooner as he did not contact them from July 2005 until now. Act quickly to avoid him showing up and asking for a visit.
