Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child taken to another county

I have an 11 year old daughter. Her mother and I were never married. I have always had shared custody and have paid child support. I have a very good relationship with my daughter. Her mother is irresponsible and neglectful and life for my daughter is very stressful when she's at her mother's home. A couple fo months ago My daugher's mother informed me that she was moving with my daughter to another county. I expressly and strenously objected. Then I heard a story that they were moving, but within the county. I just found out that that was a lie and she did, infact, relocate my child to another county. What are my rights here? What can I do about this. THis move will result in it being much more difficult to see my child. She will have to change schools at the end of the year. My daughre is 11 and she moved with her mother 6 times. Please tell me how I can fight this.

Re: Child taken to another county

You need to file a paternity action so that you can exercise your legal custody rights to the child. As this is complex you should get a child custody attorney. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
