Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Custody

My child's father has been in & out of incarceration for abuse, violent, drug, and alcohol related charges. He has not been an active father and never paid child support. I was moving to Arizona and went for the week to look for work and find a home. He filed an emergency hearing and I was forced to drop everything and drive over 500 miles to appear back in California. He was granted temporary custody. Just days before the hearing he was again arrested for being drunk in public. The judge would not hear my pleas when I tried to inform the court he is an unsafe parent. Now we have mediation and further court hearings. What can I do to get my daughter back?
