Legal Question in Family Law in California
child custody
City of San Bernardino Courts:
What forms do I need to obtain legal custody of my child?
Child has always lived with me. Father and I have verbal agreement child is to visit with him bi-weekly on weekends.
Child is now 6, also seeking legal child support since verbal agreement has not been effective in that area.

Re: child custody
I am guessing that you were not married to the Father, but you did not say. You will need to file a complaint to establish paernity. My suggestion is to get an attorney, it is a fairly simple process, but delays will cost you money in lost child support. Also, if the Father makes substantially more money than you, then he can be ordered to pay part of your attorney's fees. Get this taken care of right away, it is in the best interest of you, the Father and the child. Call around for an attorney that has a reasonable price, but has handled at least 15 paternity cases in the last 5 years. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
