Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Custody (interstate)

If a person has joint custody in one state and the custodial parent lives in another state how can the non custodial parent enforce what the court order specifies? What legal recourse can the noncustodial parent take if the other parent doesn't comply? The order was made in Tennesee, the noncustodial parent lives in Alabama the custodial parent lives in California.

You can petition any family law court to enforce a court order from another state.

Assuming the child has been living in CA for at least 6 months, you should register the Tenn judgment in your local CA court. That gets you a Ca case number. Then file a motion in CA court to set out or otherwise obtain orders enforcing the Tenn judgment or the new orders made in CA. You will be relying upon the UCCJA.
