Legal Question in Family Law in California

getting child custody

I left my husband and took my daughter from Ca and came to TX he wants to see her as he is in the military he wants me up there, he wants me to drop my 14 mo daughter for 3 weeks and says thats the only way we can get back together. Can he get custody even though we are still married and claim that I abandoned him how can I protect myself I dont have much money. We were married in Ca. Can I find out if paperwork has been filed for a custody hearing.
