Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Custody when parents aren't married

I am thinking of leaving my sons mother. What are my rights and what would be the best way to get custody of my son. She has threatened to harm me if I try to take him away. I might be able to prove that she could not provide a good upbringing. We have never been married and we have been living together for just over 7 years. Please provide the information I need because I need to make a decision quickly.

Thank you

You need to start putting together a legal case

This is not the kind of advice that can be given without very detailed information from you. The court is supposed to decide custody in the best interests of the child. You need to start putting together a legal case to establish that the childs interest would best be served if you had custody.
