Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Custody

I have a question regarding child custody. I'm only 14 yrs.old, and I live with my mother. I want to move to Dallas,Texas with my father. But I was told that I couldn't just leave, he needed to have legal custody of me. I have talked to my mother and she refuses to give custody to my father, so that I will be able to move to Dallas with him. Is their anything that can be done so that I can move with my father, even though my mother refuses to let me go? Is their any way I can choose which parent I want to live with?
